In order to be an anesthesiologist, a person must possess certain qualities, as well as the proper qualifications and training. They must be able to stay calm and focused even in intense and stressful situations. They must also have an eye for detail and be able to focus for long periods of time, as they often have to keep an eye on a patient's vital signs during surgery. They have to be extremely skilled in mathematics, and they must have a caring nature. They will be working in close proximity with patients, who are often in pain, and they need to show care and understanding to all of their patients.

In terms of training and qualifications, a person who wants be an anesthesiologist will have to spend a relatively long time in education. As anesthesiologists are physicians, they must gain the same amount of qualifications as any other physician. If you are in high school, you should focus on topics such as mathematics and science in order to get into a good undergraduate degree program.

After high school, you will have to complete an undergraduate degree, which will take about four years. Although the undergraduate degree does not have to be related to medicine, it is best for those interested in this career to do an undergraduate course in a related topic. After completing an undergraduate degree, a person then has to do four years of medical training in order to get their medical degree or M.D. Once a graduate medical degree has been earned, you may have to complete a residency, or on the job training before you can become an anesthesiologist, depending on what country you live in.
