Question
Was there a spark that kindled your interest before you ever seriously considered being a Proofreader?
Answer
I studied Journalism. It helped me to organize all the disperse knowledge I had in my head, about how should I "feel" to read an acceptably worded text. And that gave me the tools to correct bad redactions (in Spanish).
It's like finding water in the desert. You feel something when standing in the right spot. Proofreading, for me, it's the same. The text I'm reading feels 0k or it feels wrong. Someone told me that phenomenon is called "cognitive dissonance". And I'm sure, I gained that skill simply READING lots of books, since I was a child. Tons of books. And then WRITING some books, seeking for perfection in my own creations.
The people that seek form me to do the proofreading of their texts, they know that I'm good at what I do (in Spanish, :P). They work hard in those texts, so I treat their work with respect, and honestly. Some of them value that. And soon someone new appears asking me for the same service. I don't do much publicity, because I don't need it. And, for me, that is good enough: happy customers bring more customers.
I'v always been into reading and writing (in Spanish), and I'm Journalist since 2k and Editor of my own news website since 2006... so it was a natural approach to this side of my career. I prefer to work into literature and fiction (in Spanish, of course; my English needs a lot of Google Translator, yet).
