Question
Was there a spark that kindled your interest before you ever seriously considered being an Interior Designer?
Answer
I worked very closely with my architect during my own home renovation. It provided "on-the-job" training. I learned many specifics of the trade and how to manage a project timeline effectively. At the conclusion of my project, my architect asked me to consult as a designer with other his other clients.
Designers obviously must have a creative eye and understand how color, texture and light work together. One of the most important skills is listening. It is a client service business and the best way to satisfy a client is to listen to their objectives from the outset. Organization is also key. There are many moving parts to design work from fabric ordering to custom tile lead times. A timeline must be managed well or clients patience will run short!
The most rewarding experience was completing my own home. It am thrilled with the flow and warmth of our home. I achieved exactly what I had hoped for and I am able to enjoy it with my family every day.
Yes! Since I was a child, my sister and I would pour over Architectural Digest and admire homes from the backseat of our car on road trips. My husband and I purchased was a 1920s dutch colonial farmhouse with plans to renovate at some point. The house had wonderful character but needed practical amenities for our growing family. I worked very closely with the architect on all of the design features and then enjoyed furnishing and accessorizing the home when it was complete.
