For example, a fitness coordinator at an assisted living facility may spend a lot of time planning gentle water aerobics courses, and other low-impact forms of exercise. However, a coordinator at a university may focus more on planning adventurous excursions for students, like rock climbing and white water rafting trips.

The coordinator will generally have a small, private office located somewhere in the administrative section of the facility. Most of these office have little to no frills, and are nothing more than a desk suitable for doing work. A coordinator is expected to spend around half of each day outside of their office, watching over the facility, and the other half of the day planning and completing paperwork in their office.

How can I become a Fitness and Wellness Coordinator?

In order to be a fitness and wellness coordinator, one needs to have a college degree. This degree should be from an accredited four-year university. A field of study related to exercise science is preferred. Many workplaces require that the coordinator have a minimum of a bachelor's degree and two years of experience in the field, or a master's degree related to exercise science, fitness, or health and wellness.

It is clear that in order to become a fitness coordinator, one needs an extensive education, as well as experience working in the fitness and wellness industry. Employers say that great examples of this experience include work as a lifeguard, a personal trainer, or a fitness instructor. Work as a physical education or health teacher may also be a great form of experience. Many gyms also require that their coordinator be CPR certified before they are able to start the job, and some even require that the coordinator be certified as a CPR instructor.
