Just as there is not a typical workplace for a lyricist, there is not necessarily a typical salary either. There is a reason that the term "Starving Artist" is a prevalent phrase in the art world. This is not to discourage you in your aspirations of being a successful lyric writer; it is just to let you know that it is not always an easy field to make a living in. There is such a sharp pay scale ranging from those who are just getting started, to those who have written hit songs that have gone platinum. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to give a definitive calculation when it comes to a lyricist's pay.
